When it comes to underground hardcore music, bands from the east coast of the United States can rip the genre to shreds. Their passion and consciousness is what drives the feeling behind the powerful lyricism, and direct musicality. The New Jersey-based hardcore group, GEL, released a new single titled Attainable on January 31st, 2023. They are set to release their upcoming album Only Constant on March 31st, 2023.
Their new single is driven and speaks of an “only constant” feeling towards the future. The song is timed under two minutes, and challenges the stylings of their previous musical works. The beats per minute is danceable for the freaks, and the lead guitar offers a complimentary psychedelic vibe. The lyricism addresses the sense of moving forward after a rough patch of negativity, and addresses the foggy feelings that come with it. Zach Miller’s drumming is powerful and reeks with emotion. As for a sneak peak of their upcoming album, Only Constant features 10 album tracks. The album revolves around the theme of moving away from the traditional hardcore values, and instead speaks of change. In contrast to their previous works, GEL have been promoting this album as something that is happier, and something that is about growth. The new single is released under the record label Convulse Records, as is their upcoming album.
The underground hardcore group visited Toronto on Thursday, February 16th, at 1978 Dundas St. W. The show was one of two Canadian stops, the second being Montreal on February 17th. GEL provided a 25-minute set to an eager crowd of fans. They shared the bill with fellow hardcore groups Influx, Life In Vacuum, and Wild Side. They performed many songs off of their 2021 album release, Violent Closure, and even included their newest single, Attainable, on the setlist. GEL is set to continue their shows with a small tour in Europe starting on March 1st, 2023.
