With the anticipation of his upcoming album Bonfire Of Teenagers, Morrissey released his latest single, ‘Rebels Without Applause’ on November 25th, 2022. This is the first single to be released from his upcoming album, which is to be released by Capitol Records in February of 2023.

The former Smiths frontman uses a hint of autotune on his vocal track, shocking some fans who remember his love-hate relationship with electronic music. Prior to his solo work, Morrissey was actively opinionated about his use of electronic music within The Smiths music. Johnny Marr, his former songwriting partner, was open to the idea of applying synthesizers within their music, whereas Morrissey stood by idea of real instruments and no synthesizers. Does this mean the singer has finally come around to using electronic and digital instruments within his music?

Morrissey has faced backlash in recent years for allegedly supporting the far-right and anti-Islamic party, For Britain. This criticism comes from music critics and fans of the musician, due to his active social views while he was the lead singer of The Smiths. Thus, turning away the fans, and the potential of new fans, to his music. While the singer still remains to be an activist for animal rights, he has disappointed fans by allegedly supporting groups, organizations, and politicians that do coincide with his former activist views towards human rights and social justice.

‘Rebels Without Applause’ features drummer Chad Smith on the drums, the drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The song captures a certain Smiths feel, and his upcoming is described by the singer

as his best work. Morrissey recently embarked on a tour in the United States and his since began to add ‘Rebels Without Applause’ to his setlist. The single is available to stream on all music platforms.
