Sufjan Stevens' album titled "Javelin" released on the 6th of October 2023 is an abstract experimental masterpiece exploring the complexities of love and devotion. The album exudes awe-inspiring acoustic influences with dazzling dynamics taking the listener on a dreamy journey of unique sonic exploration.

The album thematically expresses the sad demise of a long term relationship while contemplating the concept of goodbye and the fears of finding new love expressed ever so eloquently in "Will anybody ever love me?". His smooth yet raw vocals compliment the direct lyricism heard throughout the album, ending with a cover of a deep cut from Neil Young's best-selling album "Harvest" presenting a stunningly new hopeful flavour of the 1972 original “There’s a World”.

The album was written, recorded and produced primarily by Stevens himself revealing his talents further. Appearances and collaborations include guitar from the National's Bryce Dessner in "Shit Talk" and accompaniment on multiple tracks from a small choir of which the activist and writer Adrienne Maree Brown is a member. Dripping with devotional lyricism, intimate melodies and collaborative artistic influence, also seen in the album artwork itself, this is an experimental masterpiece that is a true gift and is an outstanding addition to the singer songwriter's catalogue.
