Picture yourself in a club. Not a school club, but a night club. You are out with your friends, the music is loud, you are sweaty from jumping up and down to the music, and you can feel the bass in your chest. What kind of music is playing? Chances are, it is not the Gorillaz’ new single... but it should be.
Released on December 8th, 2022, the Gorillaz brought back elements from their debut album, and released nostalgic feelings into the minds of their fans. ‘New Gold (feat. Tame Impala and Bootie Brown)’ has already reached over 49 million streams on Spotify. Their new single, Skinny Ape, features 4 new songs from their upcoming release, Cracker Island, in February 2023. Soon to be their 8th studio album, the band will feature Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, and Bad Bunny, some of the familiar faces to be heard on 11 brand new tracks.
By bringing back elements from their debut album, the Gorillaz are venturing into a new era with a more immersive and hollow sound. . ‘New Gold (feat. Tame Impala and Bootie Brown)’ features a dreamy and whimsical vibe, filled with synths and airy instrumentals from the beloved virtual band. However, since the release of their new single, fans have had mixed emotions about this anticipated album. Similar to fans of the Arctic Monkeys, many have stated that they are not fond of this new experimental sound from the band. Many fans prefer the original dynamic of the band, which, oddly enough, seemed to sound more impactful. The new Gorillaz music has also left fans excited for new musical works and new songs to fall in love with. The question to be answered is will it be as good as their debut album, or will it be better?
Skinny Ape Is available to stream on all music platforms. The Gorillaz new album, Cracker Island, will be released in February 2023.
