Miley Cyrus released her eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation on March 10th, 2023. She tempted her audience by bringing forth the sounds of the Summer. And while it may make her Canadian fans quite jealous, Cyrus brings forth excitement to the all-so-close first day of Spring. The album’s lead single ‘Flowers’ became a successful hit and dominated the number one position on the Billboard charts. The single has already won gold and platinum certifications, and became a fan favourite of Cyrus’ discography. ‘Flowers’ has become the longest-running number one song on the Billboard charts for the former Hannah Montana actress.
The album introduces Miley Cyrus’ audience to a mere concept album of heartbreak and break-up songs. With ‘Flowers’ as the opening song to the album, it is directly followed by ‘Jaded’ and ‘Rose Colored Lenses’. The songs create a feeling of haziness and delusion, brought by the revelation of the first album track: independence but love lost. Endless Summer Vacation does not miss when it comes to Miley Cyrus’ raw talent. Her musicality and songwriting gifts are heard throughout the album. The clear influences of rock and pop emerge in songs such as ‘Thousand Miles’ and ‘You’, while Cyrus offers a romantic sound to the latter. As her albums cannot be complete with at least one love song, she makes it hard to ignore by offering influences from her roots. Thus, that of country and blues.
While the album does not give its all, sonically, the album provides a concept that holds a near and dear place to Cyrus’ heart. The album's concept stands on the shoulders of individuality and heartbreak, while offering a series of songs that gives the initial concept of an endless summer vacation. Through the emotions of every song, we can see that Miley Cyrus worked tirelessly on the album. However, the B-side of the album does not stand nearly as tall as the A-side.
