Pop-punk group, Waterparks, brought their Sneaking Out of Heaven tour to Toronto at the venue History on Monday, March 11, performing to a nearly sold-out show. Supporting acts Sophie Powers and Loveless set the tone for the night with engaging and energetic performances. The packed venue was buzzing with excitement, waiting for Waterparks to take the stage. At 8:50 the lights dimmed, and the band hit the stage while screams erupted from the crowd. Singer Awsten Knight started the set with Watch What Happens Next from their third studio album Fandom, before going into a melody of several songs from their album Greatest Hits.

The entire night was filled with movement; there wasn’t a single moment where there weren’t fans dancing, crowd surfing, or going crazy in the pit. Toronto clearly enjoyed the night singing along to fan favourites such as RITUAL, FUNERAL GREY, Turbulent, and more. One of the highlights of the show was when Knight went to B Stage and performed High Definition, Snow Globe, and Crying Over It All on the piano. Before he began the songs, he recounted the last time the band performed in Toronto, describing how he had brought a bag of milk out on stage and invited a fan on stage to chug one of the bags. He told the crowd that he learned piano for this tour as he wanted to make this show stand out as much as that one did, and without a doubt, he succeeded.

Knight has incredible audience engagement, making conversations with fans all throughout the venue, even those on the balcony throughout the show. He read many signs that fans held up, including having the crowd vote on if he (Knight) resembled Pitbull or Billy Corgan, with Pitbull winning the vote. As well as starting the crowd chant “crowd surfer in the dark” when he saw a fan crowd surfing between songs. He has a unique approach to crowd interactions that makes everyone feel seen and heard.

Between all the crowd interactions and the high energy twenty-one song setlist everyone in the crowd thoroughly enjoyed the night and it felt like barely any time had gone by, by the time they were performing the closing song REAL SUPER DARK. If you ever have the chance, I strongly recommend seeing Waterparks live. Their shows are a one of a kind experience that you don’t want to miss.
